Google fires engineer who claimed company ‘powering genocide’


A Google engineer who disrupted a New York Metropolis tech convention earlier this week by standing up and proclaiming that he refuses “to construct expertise that powers genocide” has reportedly been fired.

“I refuse to construct expertise that powers genocide, apartheid or surveillance,” the engineer shouted in the midst of a lecture on the “Thoughts the Tech” convention in New York Metropolis on Monday — whereas Barak Regev, managing director of Google Israel, was delivering a lecture.

“Mission Nimbus places Palestinian group members at risk,” added the unidentified employee, referring to Google’s $1.2 billion contract to supply cloud providers to the Israeli army and authorities.

The staffer — who donned an orange Google T-shirt in the course of the pro-Israel convention — was subsequently fired, according to CNBC.

It wasn’t instantly clear who the staffer was, or when he had been axed from the Mountain View, Calif.-bsaed agency.

A spokesperson for Google confirmed the employee’s ousting to The Submit, noting that “the worker was terminated for violating our insurance policies.”

“This habits is just not okay, whatever the difficulty,” the Google rep added.
